Are you looking for a new destination for a cycling tour in 2023? Our Authentic Algarve Cycling Tour could be the one for you.
Escape to the authentic Algarve with us! During this cycling holiday you will experience the very best roads of the Algarve – the hidden gem of Europe for road cycling. Easy coastal riding near Faro, challenging climbing in Monchique and rolling hills of the central Algarve. In April the spring flowers will be in full bloom all around, and the summer warmth starting to approach. In Autumn the fig trees will be full of fruit, and the weather is almost always hot!
Heritage and Culture
This week is not just about the bike… as you cycle, you will also experience the culture and heritage of this amazing country – the local cuisine, wine and liquor making, the agriculture, historic monuments and the ancient creative traditions. You will leave with a taste of real Portugal – and we know you will want to come back.
Accommodation
For 2024 we have moved the location of our Authentic Algarve gravel holiday to Alte, a small village in the heart of the Algarve hills.
Guests will stay in the beautiful Alte Tradition Guesthouse, a newly renovated traditional guesthouse in the centre of the village. With a rooftop hot tub and a plunge pool we know you will love the choice of accommodation for the week. Every morning you will enjoy a fresh and plentiful buffet breakfast to fuel the day ahead.
Cuisine
We love to support the local restaurant owners, so you will eat in different hand picked local restaurants each night, most within walking distance of the hotel. By the end of the week you will have had a taste of the many traditional dishes of Portugal and in particular the Algarve.

Alte Tradition Guesthouse
Guests on our Authentic Algarve Road Cycling Holiday will stay in this beautiful village centre guesthouse within walking distance of the village restaurants and cafes. The hotel has a plunge pool, lounge as well as a rooftop hot tub with a view of the village. The hotel is ideally situated in the Algarve – away from the busiest coastal roads, with the best road riding right on the doorstep.

Authentic Algarve Road Cycling Holiday
Please note this is only an indication as external factors such as group ability might impact which exact routes are followed.
Arrival into Faro Airport, transfer to Alte
We will arrange for you to be taken (with any bikes and luggage you have of course!) from Faro Airport to Loulé.
Here you will be met by our friendly team and checked into the hotel. Depending on your flight arrival time there might be time for an afternoon spin before dinner.
Need help with bike set up? Dont worry! Our team will assist you with everything. We will have a comprehensive tool kit, floor pump and everything you might require to get your bike ready to rock and roll.
Easy Introductory Ride
On your first day, we will head out for a rolling spin along some of the easier small road nearby. This is a good chance to shake out your legs after your journey and ensure the bikes are rolling smoothly.
We have chosen Alte to be our location for this road cycling holiday because there are so many options close by for great smooth, quiet roads. We can enjoy flat easy riding or rolling hills, beautiful countryside or coastal rides. We can’t wait to show you everything!
Tavira – 100/130km
Todays route will take you down to some of the eastern Algarve’s most spectacular coastline. Lunch will be in Santa Luzia, a charming seaside town where we might even enjoy a fish lunch overlooking the sea.
We will have other shorter options available for this day so that there is something for everyone.
Cachopo / Santa Catarina – 100-130km
This is another spectacular day in the best of the Algarve hills. Some of this route is newly tarmacked, and with the scarcity of cars in the area, fabulous views and great company you can’t help but love this route!
We will stop in Santa Catarina for a coffee and some of the best pastries in the Algarve on this ride too.
Malhão – 80-100km
Today it’s time to put the legs to the test once more – to attack one of the famous climbs in the region – Malhão! This climb is used each year as the final stage finish for the Vola ao Algarve, a World Tour Race that takes place every February.
After the climb you will be rewarded by the most local café imaginable, and some unforgettable views over the surrounding “Serra de Caldeirão”.
Vilamoura / Quarteira – 60km
Time for an easier day! After a restful morning, we will enjoy a casual spin towards Vilamoura and Quarteira to have an ice cream at Vilamoura Marina.
The afternoon is free time – sit by the pool, explore the village and surrounding beautiful walking trails on foot.
Loulé / Barranco do Velho – 80-120km
This is a great option for the final day, we will take you into the heart of the “real Algarve”- traditional villages and quiet, perfectly smooth roads.
We will enjoy a fantastic typical lunch in one of the restaurants in the “Serra” (hills) before winding back down towards Alte
Time for a last meal all together before heading home!

Can I hire a bike?
Yes. Just get in touch to let us know exactly what you would like (road, e-bike or hybrid) and we will give you a quotation.
Am I too slow?
Definitely not! We pride ourselves on providing holidays for all abilities, and we have guides for different fitness levels. Often groups will be divided into three different groups so suit everyone!
Having said that, there are two trips that do require a reasonable level of fitness – the Bikepacking Adventure and the N2 Challenge. Both of these trips have a minimum number of kilometres to complete each day.
