Welcome to Échappée Portugal!
I’m Fiona and I am the owner of Échappée Portugal. I fell in love with both cycling and Portugal 10 years ago and have lived here permenantly for 4 years.
I have created Échappée Portugal to share my passion for Portugal with other cyclists looking for a getaway. It really is the most incredible country, and I am still discovering more after all this time. The fantastic cuisine, fascinating history, slow-living culture, generosity of the people and of course the beautiful landscape all combine to form a richness you can only experience by being here.
I can’t wait to show you my Portuguese paradise on two wheels!
Why the name ‘Échappée Portugal?’
Échappée is a French word for ‘breakaway’ or ‘escape’ and it’s a commonly used word in the pro cycling circles, and in races such as the Tour de France.
But personally I loved the way that you can also use the words ‘breakaway’ or ‘escape’ to mean an escape from your normal routine, a breakaway from your every day life – another word for a holiday!
In the future I hope to create other options for my clients in other countries.
10+ Years Experience
I have 10 years experience of working in the triathlon and cycling tourist industry, many of those years working in Portugal. I have organised training camps, holidays and excursions for all ability levels.
I have a passion for meeting new people and giving them an opportunity to focus on themselves – create new goals, learn how to train, enjoy an escape from their every day and have a taste of the culture and beauty of what Portugal has to offer!
Racer
I have raced at a high level both in triathlon and cycling. My best distance in triathlon was 70.3, and I have competed in the 70.3 World Championships.
In cycling I have raced in the UK, Portugal and Ireland at a high domestic level. My most memorable race was the UCI Womens Tour de Yorkshire 2.1 – it was a dream come true to be on the start line with some of my female heros!
Coach
I am a qualified L2 cycling and triathlon coach. Over the last decade I have gained a wealth of experience, both from my athlete and also my own racing and training experiences.
I have taken a step back from coaching recently to focus on my new training holiday projects, however I am always more than happy to give friendly advice and guidance to anyone who needs it – don’t hesitate to get in touch.
